Inte'ls new undoubtedly monstrous 2.93Ghz quad core CPU was launched recently, even with more horsepower than its predecessor QX6700 which runs at 2.66Ghz. With FSB speeds staying still, the chip which is directly targeted to gamers has improved to 8mb of L2 cache.
Unlike dual core chips this one has two dies on board that each has 2 cores inside. This processor would definitely cost you a fortune and not at all recommended for an average user. Like QX6700 this one too have 581 million transistors, so may require heavy cooling. For around 1200$ it surely is a enthusiast class device.
Looks like AMD is having a difficult time now and its in the place now it was a long time before. But as usual AMD might come out with a surprise attack, now they are working on their new core Barcelona and now ATi is owned by them. Things are yet to be seen.
